Abstract: | Science is a method for investigating natural phenomena. A scientific theory is essentially a set of rules that are expressed through a formal language composed of different symbols. In a scientific language each word (defined as a collection of symbols) has a definite meaning, and should provide the most precise and extensive information within the theory. Thus, in science it is essential that we communicate accurately our work. This can be difficult as everday languages continue to change and the structure for communicating has become quite more amorphous. As a result the freedom to express oneself or take poetic license can result in a lack of clarity across scientific disciplines. © 2006, Edizioni Minerva Medica |
